-The
mission of this program is to educate the managers, staff, and guests, on being
responsible stewards of the natural resources on and around Red Hawk Golf Club
·
Water Conservation – Great efforts are taken to manage our water
resource. Our irrigation inputs are
measured using precision computer software, local weather data, soil
conditions, and turfgrass varieties.
This allows us to custom design our water inputs to maximize our distribution
uniformity and reduce waste. The run-off
from our irrigation cycles are caught by the underground drainage system, then directed
into our holding ponds to provide added aesthetics and habitat for wildlife.
·
Water Quality &
Protection – The preservation of water quality is essential for
growing and sustaining quality turfgrass.
It is in our best interest to minimize any potential for leaching of
fertilizers and chemicals into ground or surface water points on and around the
property. Soil and water tests are
performed on an annual basis to precisely formulate our fertility and chemical
programs to prevent the persistence of residues in the soils. All of our irrigation valves and turbine
pumps are equipped with backflow preventers and check valves to prevent
potential for contaminates to filter back into groundwater and public utility
water sites.
· Integrated Pest
Management/BMP’S – Growing a healthy turfgrass involves a
combination of mechanical, biological, chemical, and cultural management
practices. Our goal is to accurately set
economic and environmental thresholds to reduce the need for pesticides and
overuse of fertilizers. Maintaining proper mowing heights, nutrients inputs,
irrigation and aerating practices are all elements we factor into maintaining
quality golf course conditions. Our turfgrass
varieties planted at red hawk were chosen specifically to handle regular golf
traffic and climate conditions. Daily monitoring of stress levels is a
routine practice to be sustainable with our resources.
·
Wildlife &
Landscapes - Our property serves not only as a golf course, but as a
corridor for wildlife and wildlife habitats.
The maintenance of our natural ecosystem In the short time that red hawk has been open
for play, our efforts to educate our guests about our wildlife on and around
the course continues to grow. Our native
grasses that we established and holding ponds attracts a variety of animal
species. We believe this adds to the
overall experience to our property.
·
Engergy Conservation –
Identifying opportunities to reduce energy dependence on property is an area we
continue to work towards. On the golf
course, natural light is used for all of our bathrooms. And in the near future,
we hope to utilize solar energy to power part of our irrigation system. Inside our shop, we utilized programed
thermostats and light sensors to reduce electrical and HVAC needs.
·
Audubon Cooperative
Sanctuary Program – We are currently working towards the golf course
certification from Audubon International.
Audubon International is a non-profit environmental organization that
spearheads education and conservation assistance programs that promote
environmental stewardship and sustainability.
The golf course program is designed to enhance wildlife habitats and
protect natural resources for the benefit of people, wildlife, and the game of
golf. By becoming certified, we hope to
better understand our property and implement stewardship projects to improve
our operation and educate our members and guests.
